Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I contact if I'm having a technical problem or have another question?

If you have questions related to a specific course equivalency, please contact the SUNY school listed. If you are having a technical, policy or other issues, please contact our office using our online help form.

How do I transfer my courses/credits to my current school?

Each SUNY college and university have their own process of transferring courses/credits; however, we have provided a transfer support directory so you are able to quickly find the campus policies, procedures and campus contacts.

In general, you are required to send your transcript to your current school. You can receive a transcript by contacting the Registrar at the school you are transferring courses/credits from. Consult the support directory to determine where to send the transcript, which may differ depending on your enrollment status.

I have found an equivalent course I would like to register for and transfer to my home campus. How do I register?

SUNY students can take courses at other SUNY campuses (host campuses) through our cross-registration policy. These courses can be included in your full-time tuition at your home campus, and you may utilize your financial aid. To participate, follow these steps:

(1) Check Eligibility
Talk to your academic advisor, mentor, or department chair at your home campus. Make sure you’re eligible to cross-register, that the course fits your academic plan, and that it is accepted as an equivalent.

(2) Submit the Application
Complete the SUNY Cross-Registration application using your official .edu email address. Be sure to complete each step in the application process, and be certain you receive a certificate of residence if you are attending a community college.

(3) Follow Up on Communications
Keep an eye on emails and notifications from the application. Each SUNY campus may have different procedures, and the application helps manage the process. Be sure to respond promptly and complete any required steps from both your home and host campuses.

(4) Register for the Course
Once approved, register for the course using the host campus’s registration process.

(5) Attend the Class
Participate in the course as you would at your home campus.

(6) Transfer the Credit
After successfully completing the course, your transcript will be sent to your home campus. If there are any issues, contact the registrar’s office at the host campus for help.

Who should I contact to confirm or learn more about a specific course equivalency record?

Although we update the database regularly to provide the most current information, you should always verify course equivalency with the accepting campus. Transfer credit decisions can vary based on your major, the grade received, and the academic year the course was completed. This tool is for reference only and does not replace an official evaluation, which is required for coursework to be formally accepted. To find out how to reach a campus for more information, please use our support directory.

Where does the data come from?

The data is received directly from the SUNY campuses who accept the coursework. Currently, course equivalents are limited to SUNY campuses.

What schools are not included?

We have included data for each SUNY school, however we do not include, receive of publish data from the State Colleges at Cornell and Alfred University and programs that are exclusively upper level such as SUNY Downsate, SUNY Upstate and SUNY Optometry who accept courses as pre-requisites.

Are all transfer course equivalents included in the Transfer Navigator?

Currently, the Navigator is focused on SUNY-to-SUNY transfer courses, with a focus on transferring courses from SUNY community colleges and two-year programs to four-year programs. Subsequent planned phases for the tool include adding all equivalencies (including non-SUNY schools) and additional community college equivalencies.
