Providing Data
The Transfer Navigator is a platform which aggregates course equivalency and transfer pathway information. Built as an open-source tool, the Transfer Navigator can be ported to various plugin architectures and can be deployed on multiple CMS flavors.
Data Sources
The SUNY implementation of the Transfer Navigator builds upon the data structure of the evolving SUNY Transfer Equivalancy Platform (STEP) and the Transfer Common Data Format to ingest and display course equivalency data from various systems and platforms. Campuses can provide data to the Transfer Navigator in a series of ways, including through automated extracts from existing platforms such as Degree Works. Campuses can elect to provide information in the following ways:
- Degree Works Data Extracts
This is the most common, lowest impact method of providing data. The SUNY Transfer and Articulation Office has direct access to Degree Works transfer equivalency records and is able to routinely pull transfer equivalency records without campus intervention. Data is transformed to a CDF-compliant format and directly loaded to the Transfer Navigator. - College Source TES Equivalency Exports
Campuses utilizing TES by College Source are able to provide campus equivalency extracts directly without transforming or editing the data. As a common data source, the SUNY Transfer and Articulation Office has developed a conversion protocol that can automatically accept and load TES data. - Custom Campus-Provided Data
Campuses are able to provide data to the SUNY Transfer and Articulation office directly by sending a CDF-compliant file. Common text-based formats are most common and can be comma separated or delimited. In addition, XML file formats can also be accepted in a CDF-compliant schema. The SUNY Transfer and Equivalency Office will work with individual campuses to create a means to accept data and can accept the data in a variety of ways, provided the records and the data structure is clear and consistent.
