Study of British, European and American literature of the modern period (up to and including WW II) focusing on such literary developments as naturalism, impressionism, stream of consciousness and existentialism. An attempt is made to view the works in a psychological, historical and sociological context. Writers who may be included in discussion are Dostoevsky, Hesse, Conrad, Mann, Joyce, Kafka, Camus, Yeats, and Faulkner. Note: Fulfills SUNY-GE Humanities. Prerequisite: ENG100 or ENG101.
