Introduction to Acting

Fundamental principles of acting technique are introduced. Exercises for body and voice are practiced as well as the skills of concentration, improvisation, imagination, sense memory, objectives, action, obstacles and circumstances. Excellent for students in disciplines other than theater who wish to explore how acting techniques can enhance their life and work.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. Use their voice and body (actor's tools) for effective performance skills in the performance of dramatic scenes and exercises.
2. Define the history and theory of the acting profession.
3. Define the different skills needed for film vs. stage acting and the ?business" of acting.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of acting and the creative process inherent therein.
