Contemporary Europe

Europe has become a major area of investigation for cultural anthropologists since the 1980s. What contributions can anthropologists make to understandings of contemporary Europe? How does the Anthropology of Europe contribute to wider developments in anthropological theory and method? By taking this course, students will deepen their knowledge of anthropological approaches to the study of people living in Europe, European societies and cultures (at local and national levels), and the European Union.
