General Frequently Asked Questions
Faculty, staff and system administrators may also access the Team Dynamix STEP Support for Editors and Managers resources.
If you have questions related to a specific course equivalency, please contact the SUNY school listed. If you are having a technical, policy or other issues, please contact our office.
Each SUNY college and university have their own process of transferring courses/credits; however, we have provided a transfer support directory so you are able to quickly find the campus policies, procedures and campus contacts.
In general, you are required to send your transcript to your current school. You can receive a transcript by contacting the Registrar at the school you are transferring courses/credits from. Consult the support directory to determine where to send the transcript, which may differ depending on your enrollment status.
SUNY students can take courses at other SUNY campuses (host campuses) using SUNY’s cross-registration policy. These courses can be included in your full-time tuition at your home campus, and you may utilize your financial aid. To participate, follow these steps:
(1) Check Eligibility
Talk to your academic advisor, mentor, or department chair at your home campus. Make sure you’re eligible to cross-register, that the course fits your academic plan, and that it is accepted as an equivalent.
(2) Submit the Application
Complete the SUNY Cross-Registration application using your official .edu email address. Be sure to complete each step in the application process, and be certain you receive a certificate of residence if you are attending a community college.
(3) Follow Up on Communications
Keep an eye on emails and notifications from the application. Each SUNY campus may have different procedures, and the application helps manage the process. Be sure to respond promptly and complete any required steps from both your home and host campuses.
(4) Register for the Course
Once approved, register for the course using the host campus’s registration process.
(5) Attend the Class
Participate in the course as you would at your home campus.
(6) Transfer the Credit
After successfully completing the course, your transcript will be sent to your home campus. If there are any issues, contact the registrar’s office at the host campus for help.
Although we update the database regularly to provide the most current information, you should always verify course equivalency with the accepting campus. Transfer credit decisions can vary based on your major, the grade received, and the academic year the course was completed. This tool is for reference only and does not replace an official evaluation, which is required for coursework to be formally accepted. To find out how to reach a campus for more information, please use our support directory.
The data is received directly from the SUNY campuses who accept the coursework. Currently, course equivalents are limited to SUNY campuses.
This system was designed to facilitate transfer from SUNY community colleges and 2-year programs to SUNY 4-year campuses and baccalureate programs (called traditional or vertical transfer). Accordingly, we have included data for each SUNY 4-year campus and their practices for accepting courses from SUNY Community Colleges.
We do not include, receive or publish data from affiliated New York State Colleges at Cornell and Alfred University who are within private institutions while being supported by and connected to SUNY.
In addition, programs that are exclusively upper level or specialized such as SUNY Downstate Medical Center, SUNY Upstate Medical Center and SUNY Optometry and SUNY Maritime are not included. Community College data is included, however not all community colleges publish “transfer in” data on how they accept lateral or reverse transfer.
The City Universityy of New York (CUNY) is not part of the State University of New York system, and operates as an independant state and city supported entity. While we do not currently publish CUNY equivalencies within this tool, campuses maintain independent catalogs of credit equivalencies for CUNY and do accept CUNY credit. Please explore a specific campus using the campus support directory for more information.

Currently, the Navigator is focused on SUNY-to-SUNY transfer courses, with a focus on transferring courses from SUNY community colleges and two-year programs to four-year programs. Subsequent planned phases for the tool include adding all equivalencies (including non-SUNY schools) and additional community college equivalencies.
