CHILD DEVELOPMENT

3 credits

This is a general education course in behavioral sciences, presenting basic theories of child behavior and development (including cognitive development, social development, and physical development) from the prenatal period through middle childhood. The class is designed to present both theoretical and practical aspects of child development from psychological and developmental viewpoints. Developmental psychology is a science with a large and rich research base. Accordingly, the course will use this research to understand development. While each individual has a unique pattern of growth and development, overall, human development is orderly and predictable and therefore capable of being understood through scientific principles and methodology.Prerequisite: PSY 111 or permission of the department
