Foundations of Education

4 credits

This course will offer an introduction to the world of teaching, as it examines the basic theories of learning and teaching across educational environments for the birth-12 learner. Specifically, the course encourages deeper understanding of the educator and student in relation to others; it engages in an exploration of the social/historical/political contexts that affect education and teaching; the significant characteristics that diverse student populations bring to the classroom; and the related issues of curriculum and pedagogy across the lifespan. Over the course and cumulatively, we consider what it means to be a reflective educator. 10 hours of field experience required.
