Intro to Public Speaking

Students learn the fundamentals of preparing and delivering effective oral presentations, with an emphasis on informative and persuasive public speaking. The course introduces important elements of successful presentations including effective listening, presentation organization, nonverbal communication, and logical structure; informative and persuasive speech; use of visual aids, research, and evidence; ethical considerations; and techniques for building confidence in public speaking in the 21st century. Public speaking is designed to allow and even require individuals to become a part of the democratic process, and by definition, engage diverse opinions on socially relevant issues.
