Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 103 or ENG 109.
This course examines both historical and thematic aspects of the wide-ranging science fiction genre. Fantastic representations of social, political, technological, and environmental issues are considered. Writers such as Wells, Heinlein, Lessing, LeGuin, Atwood, Delany, and Butler are studied. Writing is an integral component of the course.
