Modern American Poetry
Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 103 or ENG 109.
This course studies the diversity of American poetry from the 19th century to contemporary times. Analysis of the texts with reference to historical, cultural, artistic and contemporary trends and ideas is emphasized. Writers to be studied include, but are not limited to Whitman, Dickinson, Frost, Eliot, Hughes, Bishop, Lowell, Rich, Plath, Cummings, Ashberry, Harper and Clifton. Writing is an integral component of this course.
