This course is a comprehensive study of the basic processes in living systems at the cellular and molecular levels of organization. Basic chemistry, aspects of cell structure, metabolism, cell energetics, and elements of classical and molecular genetics serve as the foundation for subsequent investigation of living systems. The principles of evolution underlie all discussions in the course. This course is the first semester of a three-semester sequence designed for science majors. (3 hrs. lecture, 3 hrs. laboratory.)
