African American Literature
Survey course focusing on major works by African American writers and social/historical contexts informing these works. The course emphasizes how issues of race, class, and gender have informed the themes of literary works produced by African American writers over time, situating the works within the context of the struggle for emancipation, equal rights, and social justice.
