This course introduces students to modern analytical instruments and the application of chemical instrumentation to real-world problems, in particular those pertaining to the environment. How do they work, how do you use them, what do they tell you, how should they be maintained? Instrumentation studied includes: visible, ultraviolet, infrared, atomic absorption, fluorescence, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; gas and liquid chromatography.
