Hist Western Civilization II
This course is a continuation of HIST 101. Topics include the Reformation, Age of Exploration, Traditional European monarchies, absolutism, constitutionalism, the Agricultural and Scientific Revolutions, the Enlightenment, the French Revolution, Industrialization, the political and social upheavals of the nineteenth century, colonialism, imperialism, nationalism, and nineteenth century state building, and the political, economic and social crises of the twentieth century. Much of this course examines the economic, political, and social relationships of Western Europe to Africa, the New World and the Far East: specifically demographic fluctuations, the emergence of syncretic religious forms, and economic and political instability.
