This course has been designed to help students learn and apply the knowledge and skills to become more effective in public and formal speaking situations. Students will have the opportunity to develop and deliver several speeches (informative, persuasive, and special occasion, among them) in a variety of modes (manuscript, memorized, extemporaneous, impromptu) and environments (classroom, lecture hall, conference room, theatre, video-recorded, and/or live, online videoconferencing). The primary objective is to prepare students to give presentations in courses within his/her/their field of study and to speak at college or community events, industry conferences, and professional online meetings. As you will discover, the knowledge and skills learned in this course will also be useful in internship and job interviews, on the job, at special events, and in everyday communication interactions.
