This course introduces current managerial accounting concepts, theories and practices applicable to manufacturing, retail and service industries. Job order, process cost and activity-based cost systems are introduced. Topics include budgeting, fixed and variable costs, breakeven analysis, profit analysis, relevant costs, capital investments, budgetary control, cost allocation. Ethical issues are discussed throughout the course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the ability to identify elements of cost for a business.
2. Demonstrate knowledge required to analyze how costs are allocated and assessed for various users.
3. Demonstrate the knowledge required to compare and contrast the cost accounting system for a manufacturer, merchandiser and service firm.
4. Demonstrate the ability to be able to distinguish the differences and similarities between financial reporting and managerial accounting.
5. Demonstrate the ability to utilize managerial accounting quantitative methods for evaluating the financial viability of a business decision.
