This is the first course in a year-long, in-depth study of organic chemistry. Integration of fact and theory emphasizing relationships among structure, properties, reaction mechanisms, and spectroscopy of organic compounds is studied. Laboratory work illustrates principles and techniques of synthesis and characterization of organic compounds. (NS) Prerequisite: CHEM 185 or equivalent (4: 3, 3) Fall (when demand warrants)
