Abnormal Psychology

This course provides an introduction to the study and explanation of mental disorder. Topics include research methods in the field of abnormal psychology, assessment and classification of psychological disorder, developmental pathways leading to healthy and unhealthy psychological functioning, and review of several specific psychological disorders. Specific areas of focus may include but will not necessarily be limited to: mood disorders and suicide; personality disorders; stress, trauma and psychopathology; anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders; eating disorders; sexuality disorders; addiction; and schizophrenia. Historic and current treatments for psychological disorders will also be reviewed. Prerequisite: PSYC 100 with a grade of 'C' or better. (3:3,0)
