Introduces the study of crime and the criminal justice system. Examines the causes of crime, including violent crime, crimes against property, substance abuse, sexual offenses, white collar, and organized crime. Considers the efforts of the police, courts, penal system, and community to deal with the various types of crime, as well as the social policy implications of our understanding of and approaches to the problem of crime. Prerequisite: SOC 100 or equivalent.
