This course is the first sequential course in the study of art history, covering the period from prehistory to the early Italian Renaissance. Emphasis will be placed on the development of the art and its relationship to the cultural, political, and social climate within the time in which it was produced. Students will develop basic terminology for compositional analysis of works and practice recognition and contextualization.
