Students study the biology of the many groups of microorganisms with an emphasis on bacteria. Topics include the development of the field of microbiology, microbial structure, metabolism, and ecology. There is a strong emphasis placed on human-microbial interactions including important human pathogens, disease transmission and control, immunity, and biotechnology. Corequisite: SCI 2114 Microbiology Laboratory.
