Science Fiction
HUMN 467 Science Fiction3 class hours, 3 credits.In this class we will critically examine a broad range of genre literature on themes such as race, religion, ecological peril, artificial intelligence, exploration and colonization. Students will consider these concepts in light of historical context and theoretical concepts (such as symbolist/allegorical texts, simulacra, ergodicity, and the hermeneutic/proairetic code) and complete a significant work of independent research in which they link fiction with real-world application. Prerequisite: HUMN 201 or HUMN 202.
