This course introduces students to music of major world cultures from Africa, the Middle East, Iran, India, Indonesia, Japan, China, and America, and the many ways people perceive and utilize music. Musical examples range from selections from major urban centers to small tribal villages. This course also covers how different forms of music function in unique cultural contexts.
