The course examines the social, historical, ethical and philosophical foundations of the U.S. education system. Attention is given to contemporary educational opportunities and challenges including the evolving role of the teacher, school equity and funding, educational standards, and assessment. In addition, the students examine classroom diversity and multicultural education, social justice, and reform initiatives. Students complete a portfolio as a culmination of their work with the program.
