A study of themes, techniques, and cultural contexts of selected 20th century novels. The course explores eternal human values expressed in the novels such as love, honor, pride, sacrifice and endurance. Representative international authors may include Achebe, Baldwin, Cather, Garcia, Marquez, Hesse, Lessing, Markandaya, Joyce and Kafka. Three class hours. (SUNY-H) English 101 with a C or better, placement into English 200, or instructor permission. 3 Credits
