Prerequisite: ENGL 101-102. Issues of captivity,punishment, and torture are addressed throughthe discipline of the Humanities. Exploring humanconstructs and concerns through memoir, biography,and fiction, includes experiences of captives; formsof punishment from corporal to incarceration tocapital punishment; definitions of torture; impact onsurvivors, effectiveness in obtaining information, andmaking torture acceptable to the torturer and civilsociety.
