Full Title: Applied Statics and Strength of Materials
Level: Lower Division (UG)
CIP: 1419 Mechanical Engineering

ENGR 203 | Applied Statics & Strength Mat

4 credits

Prerequisite: Math 104 or Math 114. This coursedevelops the procedures and methodology necessaryfor studying the effects that forces produce onstructural and mechanical systems and effectivelydetermining the strength of materials required tosafely resist these forces. Topics include the studyof friction, motion, forces and the effects of forceson the structural and mechanical systems on whichthey act; centroids and moment of inertia; conceptsof stress and strain; torsion; the analysis of forces inpressure vessel design, bolted and welded joints, andstructural beam design; and reaction of materials totemperature, unusual environments and mechanicalloading.
