Regional Transfer Networks

The proposed regional framework is purposefully designed to establish sustainable and clearly defined partnership relationships among campuses that are geographically proximate and have historically demonstrated strong transfer activity. These regional groupings are intended to promote coherence, consistency, and operational efficiency by aligning collaboration efforts with established patterns of student mobility and institutional engagement.

The framework is informed by a data-driven analysis and further refined to ensure an appropriate balance of campus representation within each region. As a result, the resulting regional configuration may not correspond directly with other traditional or administrative classifications.

It is recognized that many campuses maintain strong transfer‑sending and transfer‑receiving relationships that extend beyond established regional boundaries, often as a result of programmatic alignment or participation in specific admissions pathways or agreements. To account for these important connections, many institutions are designated as affiliate campuses. This designation allows them to fully participate in regional activities, including events, communications, professional development opportunities, training initiatives, and access to shared resources, ensuring continued collaboration and alignment across the broader network.

We will continue to review, refine, and adjust this structure as needed, guided by campus needs and ongoing stakeholder feedback. The framework is intentionally designed to be flexible and adaptable, rather than a fixed or rigid categorization, allowing it to evolve over time in response to changing priorities, partnerships, and institutional contexts.

Kickoff and Planning

We are pleased to invite our liaisons to a Kickoff that will serve as an important step in the planning process, and in advancing our collective. During the kickoff, we will introduce the regional network structure and membership, review roles, expectations, and timelines, and share resources to support your regional convenings.

We will also establish expectations for liaisons in the development process. As part of this launch, each liaison will be asked to convene or help organize a regional network meeting during the Fall term, ensure participation from key stakeholders across the network—including academic leadership, advising, admissions, registrar, and faculty leadership – and begin developing a shared regional agenda and priorities aligned with SUNY’s transfer goals, with support from the Office of Transfer and Articulation.

To support broad participation, we have scheduled two kickoff session options. You may attend the session that best fits your schedule; however, participation is expected from every campus, as each campus will play an active role within its regional network.

Session Option 1: June 18th 12:00PM-1:00PM

Session Option 2: June 23rd 10:00AM-11:00AM

In addition to regional meetings based on participation levels and geography, we are also establishing several discipline-specific groups. The following groups are currently proposed. Please contact Thom Hanford if you would like to propose an additional group or network.
