Environmental Science
The focus of this lecture course is on the interactions of humans with their environment. Human impact on the world's ecosystems is emphasized. The theme stressed throughout this course is that every system involving life is dependent upon maintaining balances between nutrient gains and losses, between energy inflows and outflows, and between births and deaths winthin populations. Against this background, various aspects of the human system, such as our use of soils, our disposal of wastes, our use of resources, land, energy, and our population are shown to be out of balance. The consequences of these imbalances are discussed in relation to our political and economic system.
