This course will focus on the concepts, research methods, and theories of sociology. Students will explore the relationship between human behavior and society through an examination of culture, socialization, and institutions. Important to this course is a focus on how social forces have shaped -- and continue to shape -- individual and group identities as well as inequalities and life chances. Students will discover how culture and social institutions change over time with an emphasis on the mechanisms of social change, including collective action.
