A conceptual course with a focus on developing a strong understanding in the topics of school mathematics. Emphasizes the interconnections between theory, algorithms, and problem solving by examining student responses to fundamental elementary/middle school mathematics. Content areas in the course include: numeration and number systems, sets and relations, operations on whole numbers, integers and rationals, the process of measurement, and algebra. Recommended only for Teaching Assistant Certificate majors. [Prerequisite: MAT 097 or equivalent within the past 4 years]
