This course is an introductory study of the basic processes leading to the biodiversity of life from the organismal to ecosystem level of organization. An in-depth study of natural selection and evolution will serve as the context for the study of the biodiversity of major groups of living organisms and their phylogenetic relationships. The course will also cover central themes in ecology from population and community structure to geochemical cycling in the biosphere. Designed for science majors.
