Introduction to Journalism

Journalism 101 is an introduction to the fundamentals of news and feature writing. Emphasis is placed on the techniques of newsgathering and writing. This course will focus on the elements of lead, style, structure, and types of news and feature articles for all media. Students will become more astute and critical of all news mediums, including web based news, broadcast journalism, news magazines, and newspapers. They will be capable of identifying news and feature story methods, and the choices of journalists who report and write them. Students will be introduced to journalism as a career by working professionals. Prerequisite: None. 3 cr. 3 Lec.
